The Men in Blue arrived to a raptorous welcome on Thursday in New Delhi where they were felicitated at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium for a historic victory over Australia in the Commonwealth Bank Tri-series.
The players were feted by the BCCI and the Delhi District Cricket Association as 20,000 people cheered on at the venue that was opened to the public for free entry this afternoon.
Each of the players was handed over a cheque of Rs 58 lakh. Those present included Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna, BCCI chief Sharad Pawar, DDCA president Arun Jaitley, BCCI vice presidents Lalit Modi and Rajiv Shulka and others.
Earlier, U19 World Cup winning captain Virat Kohli and his teammate Pradeep Sangwan were welcomed and received a warm round of applause.
Indian captain MS Dhoni also congratulated the U19 team and thanked his teammates for the great performance Down Under.
Earlier in the day, the team reached Mumbai and then landed in Delhi minus fielding coach Robin Singh who stayed back.
"It was a brilliant victory. Everyone played well and the youngsters performed well," Robin Singh told newsmen in Mumbai.
The team reached the Delhi airport and was whisked away from the Haj terminal as the regular arrival terminal was packed to the brim as music and chanting of "Chak De India" went louder and louder.
